Leah HoldawayBSc MAPDT 01067 I have
always been fascinated by dogs and always wanted to work with animals. I grew
up with a Jack Russell Terrier and have been involved with my friends and
families dogs.
I studied
a BTEC National Diploma in Animal Care in 1998 and went on to study my BSc
Honours Degree in Animal Science and Welfare in 2001. I studied the Puppy
Instructor and Dog Instructor Courses with Cambridge Institute in 2008. I’ve
been a volunteer dog walker for The Blue Cross and also a Children's
Educational Speaker, encouraging children to think carefully before becoming
responsible for a pet, and also on pet care. I feel strongly about educating
children as they are the next generation of pet owners and feel it is
important that they only obtain a pet because they can genuinely care for
them. On top
of all this, I’ve also been an Animal Care Assistant for the RSPCA which gave
me broad experience in working with a range of animals with different needs. In 2009
I started working for Southampton City Council’s kennels department,
dealing with stray dogs. I love my job as every day is different.
There's never a dull moment and you can never plan your day. Although
some dogs are reclaimed quickly many are forgotten about and remain with us
until we can place them into rescue or find them a new home with a loving
family. I
started Positive Training For Canines because I wanted to promote responsible
dog ownership especially having worked with the RSPCA and Southampton City
Council. I also believe that training your dog is an important part
of ownership to build a healthy bond. Training begins on the first day
of taking your dog home and carries on throughout the whole of the dog's
life. I thoroughly enjoy helping people train their dogs and hope my
enthusiasm encourages people to be responsible and enjoy owning a
dog. I am a
registered member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT), more
information on this Association can be found at www.apdt.co.uk |
